Higher Education's Christmas Carol Conundrum
Before we take a Sleigh Ride or start Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, let us reflect on the opportunities that lay ahead. While some dream of a White Christmas in a Marshmallow World, we know there are students who are struggling to balance their personal lives with their academic goals This Time of Year. Just like Last Christmas as we look forward, higher education has a chance in 2020 to plan and prepare to better meet students’ needs.
The challenges facing higher education are not new. This past year has highlighted areas long overdue for improvement. On their lists to Santa Baby, students are seeking pathways to low cost educational options from institutions understanding that while It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, the struggle for them is real. We tend to develop solutions to solve problems instead of designing solutions to achieve desired outcomes. We try to make solutions fit by default instead of by intentional design. As we drag out the Mistletoe and Holly, we need to remember that Jolly Old Saint Nicholas and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer do not have the answers. It is up to each of us on this Cold December Night to set aside tradition to see past how we think it should be done to how it needs to be done. Just because Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer last year, doesn’t mean it needs to happen again. We need to focus on increasing affordable educational options designed to help all students achieve their academic goals and it starts This Christmas.
EduCred Services wishes you and your family Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays!
