“Look, uh, sometimes things look good on paper, but lose their luster when you see how it affects real folks. I guess a healthy bottom line doesn’t mean much, if to get it you have to hurt the ones you depend on. It’s people that make the difference, little people like you.”
Frank Shirley [National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation]
There are many times when decisions are made because they “look good on paper,” but once decisions are implemented they do not always produce the desired affects. It’s important to consider the individuals you depend on to run the day-to-day operations at your institution and the students you seek to serve when reviewing your bottom line. Sometimes changes that seem to make fiscal sense may not make good people-sense. So during this holiday season, take time to remember those people you depend on who also depend on you to help them reach their personal, professional, and educational goals. Together a positive impact on higher education can be made in 2015. Happy Holidays!
